The Tampa Bays Rays are an MLB baseball team based in Florida. The rays are in the East division in the American League. Their is also a National League in the MLB also. The Rays Started playing In the MLB in the 1988 season. Their home field is Tropicana Field.
Tropicana Field is home to the Tampa Bay Rays, and has been their home field since the team's inaugural season in 1998. The stadium used to be used for a college football postseason bowl called The St. Petersburg Bowl from 2008-2017. It is currently the only MLB venue that is indoor all year round. Tropicana Field is the smallest stadium in the MLB in terms of seating capacity. The stadium is commonly known as "The Trop".
Following almost three decades of trying to gain an expansion franchise to the Tampa Bay area, an ownership group managed by Vince Naimoli was approved on March 9, 1995. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays began to play in the 1998 MLB season. Their first decade of play was not very good, they finished in last place in the AL East Division, except in the 2004 season, when they finished second to last. In the 2007 season, things changed. The team's name changed from Devil Rays to Rays, now meant to refer to a burst of sunshine rays rather than the sea animal a Manta Ray. The 2008 season saw The Tampa Bay Rays have their very first winning season. They won their first pennant in the ALCS, though they lost to the Phillies in the World Series that year.
